Connectorless version?

Your Zynq board rocks. And one of the most impressive stats is the price. But those tiger eyes from samtec are a bit expensive ones, and both mating parts are required for all the boards you ship.
For some projects, the board is inserted once and forever, so it possibly makes sense to install some cheap 2-way 0.05 headers, effectively soldering board to the carrier.
Is there a chance of a connectorless version available later? Or maybe a version with soldering-ready headers, like, say M50-3502042.
Hi,

During the design process we did look into 0.050" square pin headers that will usually fit but technically with the footprint that is needed for the tiger eye connectors it should not fit. Meaning that the fit is not repeatable and does not meet the manufacturer's tolerances or recommend footprint.
The other issue is alignment of multiple connectors as the ordinary 0.050" square pin headers do not have alignment pegs. Since the snickerdoodle has a massive number of I/O pins (270) this is definitely an issue.
Thirdly, without connectors installed we don't have a cost effective means to perform final production functional test of the snickerdoodle. There are ways to do this with specialized fixtures but they are either time consuming (=$$$) or upfront capital intensive (also =$$$).
We also use low insertion force pins on the connectors down (SFM) versions where the snickerdoodle has female connectors on the bottom side.
The final issue is signal integrity. The Samtec TFM/SFM combo is rated for gigabit signaling. The standard 0.050" headers will probably work but they lack a spec or any qualification.

We can sell you the male mating connectors (Samtec TFMs) in a set or in volume at a price that is lower than what the Harwin connectors you referenced are available for via Digikey/Mouser etc. as a service to the community since we are buying a massive amount of those anyway and want to see as many baseboards created as possible. These are available on the website or for volume purchases contact us directly.

Thank you for your answer. With all these facts you mentioned it really seems that sticking to samtecs is an optimal solution.
