Desktop Environment

I have my Snickerdoodle and have connected to it with TeraTerm just fine. I have setup wifi access and everything is working great. I have installed the Tightvncserver on the Snickerdoodle. I have a Tight VNC Viewer on my windows system and I would like to connect from it to the Snickerdoodle and run a desktop environment. Is there a desktop environment already installed in the Snickerdoodle Ubuntu SD card image. If so, how do I start it? If not, what would you recommend? Thanks.
I would also like to know if there is a desktop environment available for the snickerdoodle.

I plan to use the snickerdoodle black & a piSmasher as a replacement for my Raspberry Pi 2 B+, but given my lack of skills in linux I will need the ability to work in a desktop environment.

We have some alpha customers that have sent around screenshots of them running a desktop environment and displaying over VNC.
I haven't asked them exactly what they installed but we can followup.

I have personally only run X Windows software on the snickerdoodle remotely displayed using 'ssh -X' to login.

I've installed Xfce desktop and XRDP. That lets me use Windows' RDP client to connect to snickerdoodle, although it's not very useful for my application. Google "ubuntu xfce xrdp" for some helpful blogs.
