favorite/best communities & forums

If anyone has a favorite developer community, forum, or any other support/communication mechanism they'd like to suggest, please let us know. The Google Forum was really easy to set up, but we realize it may not be the best option out there.

Any and all feedback and suggestions are welcome! We just want to make sure we're providing the best experience possible for sharing projects, knowledge, ideas, and all things snickerdoodle!

I visit these pretty regularly and like them:

Also, what about an IRC or Slack channel ?

Hi Guys, slack is pretty cool for real time conversations with searchable history. Great integration's as well. If you prefer threaded conversations then you might just want to stick with what you have or some other forum based software. Personally I am not a fan of the forum software based on discourse.

Thanks, gents! Perhaps a combination of Slack and one of these forum tools (myBB/phpBB/Vanilla/SimpleMachines) would be best. I'll have to look into the mechanics of Slack on our end in terms of how groups are managed, etc. but seems pretty straightforward.

Another option is something like Mumble (or even Skype/Google Hangouts) for weekly developer calls kind of thing. In general we'd like to keep things as lightweight/consolidated as possible without restricting communication, project sharing, etc.

If you're looking for forum software I'd highly recommend taking a look at Discourse, it's open source and far more enjoyable to use than myBB/phpBB/Vanilla/SimpleMachines.

As far as Slack is concerned, it's okay but I still prefer a well logged IRC channel on a popular network (e.g. Feenode or OFTC).

Well, that's my 2¢.

Thanks, Adam! Looks like that's one "for" and one "against" Discourse. Seems like a pretty solid platform but I admittedly don't have a ton of personal experience with it.

We'll be nailing this down in the next couple weeks so get your 'votes' in now!

I understand that not everyone is a fan of Discourse the designers do seem to have gone out of their way to "reimagine" the structure and layout of forums. Personally, I still mourn the passing of NNTP and Usenet.
